Woman arrested for theft and intimidation

Woman faces charges of theft and intimidation.

A 22-year-old woman from the Delport informal settlement was recently arrested by the Primrose police on charges of theft and intimidation.

The charges were laid against her by her boyfriend, who reported a series of incidence to police.

The man told police that a series of incidents began when the couple had a fight, after which the woman dumped their baby with him and left the shack they shared.

The following morning the woman returned to the shack and collected all her belongings, after which the man decided to change the locks.

He left the shack to visit a friend and, upon his return, found his home had been broken into and his clothes and money stolen.

“After the theft the man came to the Primrose Police Station to ask the police to help him, but insisted that he did not want to press formal charges,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The woman was questioned and admitted to leaving their child with her boyfriend and to taking his clothing.

She said the clothes were at her new home and that she would return them to him.

Officers accompanied the woman to her home, where she was able to produce only the man’s identity document.

When officers enquired about the clothes she admitted that she had, in fact, sold the garments to buy beer.

“The woman felt she was entitled to sell the clothes to get money, as the couple had bought the shack together and she was no longer living in it.

“She added that the only thing she would do for her boyfriend was to buy 5l of petrol and burn down his shack.

“The woman believed that no one could stop her, not even the police,” said Maome.

It was after this threat that the man was persuaded to press formal charges and the woman was arrested.

The suspect was taken to the Primrose Police Station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
