Storm wreaks havoc

A massive hail storm in the city recently caused a lot of damage.

The sky darkened and people ran for cover last Monday, when the city was hit by a massive hail storm.

Damage was caused to cars and homes.

Tedstoneville seemed to be particularly hard-hit, with many residents from the area sending photographs to the GCN.

Chairman of the Elsburg CPF Willy Eales told the GCN that the roof of a block of flats called Comaras, in Gans Street, Tedstoneville, blew off during the storm.

The roof blew over a number of properties and debris landed in many of the surrounding streets.

“Five flats, which mainly housed elderly residents, were affected,” Eales said.

About 30 members of the CPF rushed to help the affected people.

While the storm raged, the members moved furniture and other items out of the flats, and others cooked a meal for the shocked residents.

Eales added that two elderly women were very shaken-up and paramedics were called to check on them.

Residents from all over the city sent the GCN photographs of the storm in their respective areas.
