Seven men were arrested by the Primrose police, recently.
The men, aged between 21 and 31 years old, were all charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“Most of these crimes happened in informal settlements, as a result of alcohol abuse.
“We will conduct operations to protect our community, with special focus on crimes like domestic violence, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and child negligence.
“We will also raid and close illegal taverns to try to curb alcohol abuse in the area,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
All the suspects have appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the cases were postponed for a number of reasons.
