Gum trees cause problems

Residents' concerns grow over falling branches.

Residents’ concerns have began to grow over the branches falling from the gum trees behind the houses in Coral Street, in Woodmere.

Residents fear that the branches, that have begun to fall on the back walls of their properties, will fall on their houses.

The residents fear is that the falling branches will damage the houses or, in a worst case scenario, cause the residents themselves harm.

The GCN reported the matter to the metro and Sam Modiba, Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson, responded, saying: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Parks Department will assist the community by pruning or removing the problematic trees.

“We will further extend our communication with the affected residents until such time as the complaint has been handled.”
