Community catches rape accused

Rape suspect caught by the community.

A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Primrose police in the Makause informal settlement recently on a charge of rape.

It is alleged that the accused visited the victim and told her that he was selling second-hand clothes and shoes and if she wanted to look at them she must accompany him to his shack.

“The woman went with him to have a look at the clothes but when they arrived at the shack he allegedly locked the door, pushed the victim on to the bed, removed her clothes and raped her,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

The suspect was caught by members of the community and handed over to the police, who then arrested him.

“The management of the Primrose SAPS thank the community members for handing the suspect over to the police and encourage them not to assault suspects when they catch them,” Maome said.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and the matter was postponed for bail application.
