Illegal shebeen owner arrested

A man selling liquor without a licence has been arrested.

Primrose SAPS members arrested a 26-year-old man for dealing in liquor without a licence.

He was recently nabbed in the Makause informal settlement when the police, who were patrolling in the area, noticed a shebeen.

They decided to visit it, with the intention of searching people.

When they entered and saw that liquor was being sold, they asked the owner for his liquor licence, which he could not provide.

They then arrested the man and confiscated the alcohol.

“We, as the police, warn the community not to deal in liquor without a licence,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“We are experiencing a challenge, with domestic violence, rape and assaults increasing in the informal settlements, and many are due to the abuse of alcohol.

“We will keep on monitoring the area and arresting all law-breakers.”

The man paid an admission of guilt fine and was released.
