The event began with kanchu Alex Tebbutt (chief instructor and owner of Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy) thanking each and every student, instructor and parent for their hard work, dedication and contribution to making the year a huge success.

From most-dedicated student to international completion winners, every student received at least one trophy or more.

Fifty-two awards were handed out at the prize-giving.

Some of the awards handed out were:
• Victrix Ludorum: sensei Tiffany Knoop.
• Victor Ludorum: Cole Pretorius.
• Full Contact Karateka: Logan Stadler.
• Kickboxer Boys: Cole Pretorius.
• Kickboxer Girls: Casey Stadler.
• Champ of Champs: Monique Scott.

“Not a single student leaves without a trophy,” said Susan Scott, on behalf of the club.

“Each year we add in extra trophies, including funny trophies as well.”

Landie van Niekerk and Pretorius recently returned from the Full Contact Martial Arts World Championships in Blackpool, England, and both came back with medals.

This year the Toothpaste Trophy for the most laughs and giggles went to Heinu Vermaak.

This award most certainly kept the crowd cheering and laughing.

Susan ended the event by thanking each and every parent for their assistance during the year, especially the past six months, as well as helping with the tournament that took place at the Tongaat Sports Centre in Durban.

She also thanked her dad, Tebbutt, for being an inspiration and having the heart to train little children.

Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy had a very successful year and made sure that recognition was given to each individual who made it a success.
