The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club took on Tembisa Cricket Club on Sunday at their main oval in Dinwiddie and it proved to be a great start for Elsburg.
The Sunday Promotion Leauge resumed for the second half of the season and the match saw Tembisa batting first.
They were bowled out for a measly 70 runs in their 50 overs.
Qumar Hayat from the Elsburg Eagles put on a great bowling attack taking four wickets for only a handful of runs.
He was backed up by good bowling from Garret Hann, Darren van Tonder, Billy Milliar and Jacques Jansen van Vuuren.
After their tea, Elsburg took to the crease smashing 74 runs in just 17 overs with four wickets down.
Elsburg’s top batsmen on the day were Garret Hann with 17 runs and Stan Thorpe with 14 runs.
“It was a fantastic start to the second half of the season,” said Martiens Grobler of Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club.
“We produced great batsmen and bowlers last season and that should help us this season,” said Tumelo Maema, one of the bowlers from Tembisa Cricket Club.
Both clubs seemed hopeful for their future games, but both mentioned that a tough team to beat was Germiston City Cricket Club.
