Taryn Bannister is a trainee inspector. She joined the team in January last year as she decided she wanted to start living her passion, which is helping animals. She has worked at a number of animal rescue centres and her work at the SPCA entails inspections, animal cruelty investigations and cases, and catching snakes in the area.
Piet Mpye is a kennel hand. He started at the SPCA in 1981 as he loves animals. “Now I cannot move anywhere else, I must stay here as I want to work with the animals,” he said. Piet feeds the animals, cleans the kennels and looks after the general well-being of the animals.
Vada Kaitlin Mills is a trainee inspector. She started at the SPCA at the beginning of July this year and came to work at the SPCA as she wants to make a difference in the lives of animals. Her job entails home checks, post-home checks and call-outs for strays and surrendered animals.

Burt Coetzee is the manager and senior inspector. Burt has worked in the society for many years and started at the Germiston SPCA in May, 2015. Animals have always been his passion and he loves helping them. His job entails making sure the SPCA is operating efficiently and is serving the animals in their area as best they can.
Kevin Slabbert is a kennel hand. He started working at the SPCA in February last year and enjoys his job. He loves animals and enjoys working with them. Kevin’s job entails feeding the animals, cleaning the kennels and playing with the animals.
Nkosingiphiwe Sibiya is a receptionist. He started in April this year and wanted to work at the SPCA as he loves animals. His job entails taking calls, helping people with applications for adoption, helping with the admission forms for animals and other paperwork. He wants to be an inspector one day.
Solomon Mokgoleng is a kennel handler. He started working at the SPCA 10 years ago as he loves animals and enjoys working with them. His job entails feeding the animals, cleaning the kennels, fixing the kennels and sorting out problems in the kennels.
Selina Rabalao is a cleaner. She has worked at the SPCA for 19 years. She was as a kennel hand for 14 years, and then moved into the position of general cleaner. Selina loves animals and that is why she came to work at the SPCA. Her job entails keeping all the offices and the hospital clean.
Abel Masemola is a trainee kennel manager and kennel handler. He started at the SPCA nine years ago because he loves animals and he wants to help. His job entails checking the kennels, doing maintenance of the kennels, cleaning them and paperwork.
André Slabbert is a kennel hand. He started at the SPCA in February last year. Kevin likes working at the SPCA as he loves dogs and likes to make them happy. His job entails feeding the animals, cleaning the kennels and playing with the animals.
Johannes Rabalao is a field officer. He has worked at the SPCA since 1979. “I have always been an animal lover. I come from the farms, so when I moved here I saw there was a place that cared for animals so I tried my luck,” he said. Johannes is a jack-of-all-trades but in his current position he acts as the eyes and ears for the inspectors and also checks places of concern.
Jack Levin is the administration officer and assistant manager. He started at the SPCA in June last year. He joined the SPCA as he likes to work with animals and feels they all need a voice. His job entails paperwork and interacting with the public.
