EMPD nab five speedsters

The EMPD arrested five people for speeding, on Sunday.

Speeding motorists were targeted by members of the EMPD Speed Unit, on Sunday.

The operation took place on the N12 eastbound, between the Barbara Road and Kraft Road turn-offs.

Five drivers were arrested for excessive speeding, between 7am and 10am, on this 120km/h zone stretch of the highway.

A 25-year-old male driver, who claimed he was rushing home to Swaziland, driving a Toyota Hilux double cab, was arrested when he was clocked doing 166km/h.

At 9.46am, a 56-year-old male driver of a Mercedes Benz AMG sedan was caught doing 164km/h.

He claimed that he was rushing to visit his son.

The other three offenders were arrested for doing speeds of between 163 and 164km/h.

Two were charged at the Primrose Police Station and three at the Bedfordview Police Station for reckless and negligent driving and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.

They were all released on a bail of R1 000 each.
