Elderly athletes to compete at regional Active Ageing Games

Encouraging the elderly to keep fit and healthy.

The regional phase of the 2015 Active Ageing Games continues across Gauteng and the central, eastern and northern regions of the province are next, with each region’s games scheduled for Friday (August 14).

Elderly people from the age of 60 and above will compete in a number of sporting activities, including Jukskei, soccer, duck walk, ring the stick and track and field athletics, for selection to represent their regions at the Provincial Active Ageing Games, which are set to take place later this year.

Hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the Active Ageing Games is an initiative of the provincial government and is aimed at encouraging a culture of healthy living among the elderly through active participation in sporting and recreational activities.

The Ekurhuleni region’s games will take place from 10am to 4pm at the Germiston Stadium in Delville.
