Babies given love in honour of Mandela

Madiba magic at home for abandoned babies.

On Mandela Day, recently, Remade Recycling and its staff donated nappies, formula, blankets, toys and clothes for the care and support of the 15 babies currently in the care of El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies, in Primrose.

The staff also spent their 67 minutes of community care on Mandela Day enjoying time with the little ones, playing with them and feeding them.

As always, though, it was a lot more than just 67 minutes.

The home is completely dependent on public support and, although Remade supports it on a monthly basis, staff know that being able to contribute in other ways, like on Mandela Day, is always very welcome to the home.

Michella Hattingh, Remade group marketing and public relations officer, said: “Even though these babies will probably never be fully aware of the love and compassion shown by their community, we hope that our ability to support their caregivers today will one day have an impact on their lives.

“In Matthew 25 verse 40, Jesus said: ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

“So we answer His call to care for His precious creation in the spirit of what we, as a recycling company, stand for – giving meaning and value to what was once thought to be useless.”

Remade generates in excess of 200 000 tons of recyclable waste a year at its nine recycling plants in Gauteng, Pretoria and North West Province, and encourages everyone to join in the war against waste and preserve all life in our communities.
