Motor festival gets hearts racing

Gauteng Motor Fest a turbo charged affair.

High levels of adrenaline got speed lovers’ hearts revving during the Gauteng Motor Fest, at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan, last weekend.

This year’s instalment of the festival, hosted by the metro, commenced last Friday, with the Women in Motorsport breakfast session at Carnival City.

The event highlighted the participation of women in the male-dominated sport, as well as the challenges they face.

The three-day extravaganza saw scores of motoring enthusiasts braving the cold weather for a breath-taking experience which left them hanging on the edges of their seats.

The pulse racing action kicked-off with the thrilling SupaDrift Series and professional GoKart Demos driven by both male and female drivers, as well as the Honda NSF100 motorcycle racing.

Saturday was just as exciting, with the drift masters bringing their A-game to entertain fans with their top-of-the-range modified race cars, such as those seen in movies like The Fast and Furious.

Sunday was the high point of the epic weekend, with speed stars giving nail-biting performances on the raceway, showing off their best exhilarating drifting styles and skills.

“As the metro, we are looking forward to working with Thebe Reed Exhibitions in growing the love of this unique sport within our borders,” said MMC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Clr Dorah Mlambo.

“This will afford us the opportunity of educating our communities on the importance of prioritising safety and abiding by the law when participating in racing and drifting.”
