Supa Quick’s pink Friday

Lambton's Supa Quick held a free breast examination, recently.

Lambton’s Supa Quick went pink last Friday, during their PinkDrive.

Women of the community were welcome to go to the mobile breast check unit and have their breasts examined for free.

After the examination, they received a free goodie bag.

“Bridgestone South Africa donated R1-million to PinkDrive, last year, to assist them in their fight against breast cancer,” said Bridgestone South Africa’s marketing manager, Desiree van Niekerk.

“The money was raised with the ‘Pink Valve Cap’ project that was launched during last year.

“The pink valve caps were sold at participating Supa Quick dealers and all proceeds were donated to PinkDrive.”

Bridgestone South Africa’s CEO, Mike Halforty, said Bridgestone came up with the innovative idea that would not only captivate their stakeholders, but at the same time raise money for this worthy cause.

“The pink valve caps are a stylish add-on to a vehicle and the customers who purchased them can showcase that they have done their bit to assist this initiative,” he said.

“We are proud to be associated with PinkDrive and to know that we are actively assisting in making a difference.

“We hoped for the best when we launched this product and we are more than satisfied with the outcome.”

“I had fears before the examination and now my fears have been put to rest,” said Marion Sloane, one of the community members after her breast check.

“For a two-minute examination, it is worthwhile and the examiner was very informative.

“It’s nice of Supa Quick to do something for the community.”

PinkDrive’s Noelene Kotschan, CEO and founder, expressed her deepest gratitude to Bridgestone.

“I am at a loss for words.

“How does one thank a committed organisation and the public for their contribution to financially assist PinkDrive?” she asked.

“With the donations, through us, you will directly help thousands of people in communities by raising awareness and allowing us to educate them on breast cancer.”

Kotschan thanked Bridgestone for also providing tyres for all the PinkDrive vehicles.

“Bridgestone, since inception, has been the tyre sponsor for the PinkDrive fleet,” she explained.

“They have also generously provided tyres for the new truck.

“The money raised from this initiative will go towards building new mammography units, as well as keeping the existing units on the road.

“The earlier breast cancer is detected, the higher the likelihood of a successful cure.

“However, many South Africans don’t have access to the technology to detect breast cancer, and PinkDrive aims to reach them with modern screening tools and education, through the mobile units.”

“Bridgestone and PinkDrive thank all motorists in South Africa,” said van Niekerk.

“An initiative like this would have not been possible without the support of the public and stakeholders involved.

“With the assistance of the PinkDrive truck, Supa Quick has brought the service of clinical breast examinations right to the community of Lambton.

“Thank you to Marcellus McNamara and the team from Supa Quick, in Lambton, for promoting the early detection of breast cancer.

“Together we can save lives.”
