Elsburg police crackdown on crime

Successful week for Elsburg SAPS.

The Elsburg police have been hard at work combating crime in their area.

During the week, July 13 to 19, they conducted several operations and 27 suspects were nabbed.

One of the operations was the station’s Operation Fiela.

The operation included stop-and-searches.

During Operation Fiela, a number of suspects were arrested for offences ranging from minor to serious crimes:

  • Theft general: 3
  • Possession of suspected stolen property: 2
  • Assault and attempted housebreaking: 1
  • Drunk in public: 4
  • Assault GBH: 2
  • Pointing a firearm: 1
  • Assault of a police officer and defeating the ends of justice: 1
  • Assault common related to domestic violence: 1
  • Possession of dagga: 2
  • Dealing in counterfeit goods: 1
  • Attempted business burglary: 1

The Elsburg SAPS station commander, Col Veeshani Arikum, thanked everyone who contributed to the successes.

She further encouraged members to double their efforts and to get crime down to zero in the area.

All the suspects appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and their cases were postponed for various reasons.
