Young girl raped while playing with friends

Rape suspect nabbed.

A woman, who left her child in the Makause informal settlement to play with other children, recently came home and discovered her daughter had been raped.

The Primrose police are investigating a case of rape after the woman opened a case claiming that she had left her 10-year-old, at about 1pm on July 10, playing with friends, and when she returned at 5pm, she noticed her daughter was tense and struggling to walk.

The woman called the children to come over and asked if they knew what was wrong with her daughter, as the child had burst into tears when asked what was wrong.

However, before they arrived, the mother asked a woman friend of hers to come and help her inspect her child.

“When the neighbour came, they both undressed the child and saw that she had been sexually violated,” said Sgt Mduduzi Nhlabathi, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS cluster.

“The police were summoned and the children were questioned and asked if they had witnessed anything while they were playing.

“They told both the police and the mother that the girl had been raped by a certain male that lived around the area.

“The children also gave a description of the clothes he was wearing, as well as the physical appearance of the suspect as they did not know his name.”

Police followed the leads and a 30-year-old man was arrested in his shack where he had been hiding.

He appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court on July 15 and was remanded in custody, pending further investigation.
