Red ribbons against crime

Community supports red ribbon campaign.

The Primrose CPF has expressed its condolences to the family who lost a member after an attempted break-in at their home, in Simon Street, Rustivia, on Tuesday.

“It is with great sadness that we learnt that one of our community members was fatally injured during an attempted break-in in Sector Two, in the early hours of the Tuesday morning,” said Wendy Morgan, chairman of the Primrose CPF.

“Two other community members were also injured, while apprehending a suspect.

“One suspect is in custody as a result of the community involvement and the police are investigating.”

The Primrose SAPS and the community also convey their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the family.

“In times like this we are reminded that crime influences and touches all our lives,” said Morgan.

The CPF has initiated a campaign and is urging all residents to tie a red ribbon around their trees or gates to say no to crime.

“Let us take hands and stand up against crime,” said Morgan.

“Let us be part of the fight against crime – be on a Whatsapp group, buy a sector board and put it on your gate, become a patroller, or meet with your neighbours and each take turns to spend an hour outside in your garden and watch what is happening in your street.

“Let’s show the criminals that we don’t want them in Primrose.

“Let’s not wait for another tragedy to make us stand up and say no to crime — show your support by tying a red ribbon at your property.”

To become part of a Whatsapp group in your area, contact Morgan on 072 963 9675, Michelle McAslin on 083 769 9451 for Sectors One and Two, and Janet Gerretsen on 082 963 3328 for Sector Three.

Last Tuesday evening the CPF conducted a patroller convoy through Rustivia and other areas of Primrose, to show their respect for the 59-year-old resident who died in the assault and to create awareness in the community.
