Mercedes seized in arrest

Seized vehicle link to more than 30 crimes in Germiston.

Officers from the EMPD recently seized a silver Mercedes C-class, linked to more than 30 crimes in Germiston, during the arrest of four men.

Officers, who were on patrol in the area, first received information on the vehicle and its four occupants, aged between 28 and 35 years old, when it was spotted at the Cydonia Road bridge.

“EMPD officers went to the bridge and when the suspects saw them they jumped into the vehicle and drove off; the officers gave chase,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Officers were able to pull over the vehicle in Churchill Avenue.

“As they approached the vehicle, the suspects fled in different directions,” Maome said.

Three of the suspects were chased down and arrested and the final man was arrested and handed over to police by a local security officer, who found him hiding in Dawnview.

During a search of the suspects police found a toy gun.

When questioned about what they were doing at the bridge, the men confessed that they were there to do smash-and-grabs.

The accused were charged with the possession of a stolen motor vehicle and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
