Let’s warm our community

Pick n Pay asks the community to help keep the community warm this winter.

With the bitter chill of winter biting, Sonja and Jacques van Wyk, the owners of Pick n Pay Hazel Park and Pick n Pay Lambton, are doing their bit to ward off the chill for the community.

The Pick n Pays are holding a collection for the Salvation Army Germiston and are appealing to the community to get involved.

Any blankets, warm clothes and non-perishable food can be placed in the specially marked bins at both stores.

There will also be donation boxes placed at the stores’ till points, if people want to make monetary donations.

The initiative will run until the end of July, with regular handovers being made to Timothy Mabaso, the corps officer in charge of the Salvation Army Germiston.

“We have walked a long way with the Salvation Army and try to support them with regard to funding and allowing them to collect outside, especially at Christmas time, with the band,” said Jacques.

“We support the work they do and the way they work in the community without discrimination.”

Mabaso said: “The Salvation Army thanks Pick n Pay for the support we have received over the years.

“We would not be able to do what we do without this assistance and our volunteers.

“It is greatly appreciated.”

Currently, the Salvation Army Germiston provides food and clothing to people who need assistance, but it cannot provide shelter.

Get involved in making this winter a warmer one and make a donation today.
