No water, no phones for CBD business

Business left with no water and phones.

The GCN was recently contacted by Joey Habib, from Lides Steel, in the Germiston CBD.

Habib said that, due to the work being done on the pavement in President Street, the business had been left without any water.

At the time of her call they had been without water for a week and a half.

“The work has been going on for about four to five months,” Habib said.

“While laying the water pipes, they also damaged the phone cables so we were left without phones, resulting in a great loss of business to us.”

Habib said that although she had reported the water problem to the metro and been given a reference number no one had bothered to come back to them.

The GCN asked the metro for comment on the matter and only nearly a month later did they came back to us.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro said, “The metro attended to the water problem on May 27.

“It is reported that Telkom lines were stolen in the area.

“The contractor, together with Telkom, is attending to the matter.

“The metro has requested the contractor to submit a report on this matter.”
