Business owner fed up with lack of service

A local businessman is tired of the metro's non-delivery of service.

A Georgetown resident is fed up with the metro’s lack of service delivery.

Adelino Rodrigues, who is the landlord of businesses in High Road, Georgetown, told the GCN that he has been battling to get two new electricity meters installed since May.

“The meters burnt for some reason and when the metro was informed about the problem they just came out and connected the wires so that we could have electricity,” Rodrigues said.

“To date the metro has not come back to install new meters and the electricity accounts are getting higher and higher, who knows how as I don’t know how they would charge us without a meter.”

Rodrigues said that as the landlord he always made sure that the municipality accounts were not in arrears and since the burning out of the meters and the huge amounts the metro has suddenly started charging them, the accounts are falling behind.

The accounts do not reflect that they are being charged using interim amounts which Rodrigues said would have been at least understandable.

“I have been sent from pillar to post trying to sort out this mess and I don’t know what to do any more,” Rodrigues said.

Rodrigues also told the GCN that one person with Ekurhuleni papers told him that if he paid R2 500 he would have new meters quickly.

“I am not sure if the man was trying to do some kind of illegal deal, but I don’t do business like that,” Rodrigues said.
