Man stabbed in the hand following altercation

Man stopped by police as he chases victims.

After recently being denied access to a tavern in the Marathon informal settlement, a 19-year-old man started an argument with some men outside.

“Two men argued with the accused as he had started to swear at the elderly man acting as a security guard at the tavern,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The men claimed they tried to calm the man, but he became angry and went to his shack where he grabbed a sharp object, which he used to stab one of the men in the hand.”

Police were called to the scene and when they arrived the accused was seen chasing after the men.

“It is alleged that he intended to stab the men,” Maome said.

He was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station, where he was formally charged with attempted murder.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for trial.
