No load shedding today – says Eskom

Eskom is closely monitoring its energy reserves following a week of load shedding.

“There is no planned load shedding today as we have enough generating capacity to meet the demand in electricity,” said Eskom in a statement this morning.

The power utility said it expects improved conditions this week as it’s managed to fill its diesel reserves.

This comes after a week and weekend of load shedding throughout the country.

Diesel shortages were identified as the source of last week’s load shedding, and maintenance on generating units has reportedly also contributed to the daily implementation of load shedding.

Eskom’s spokes man Khulu Phasiwe said,“So far the good news is that some of our generating units are now back online and we are expecting a few others to come back online later.

“For the rest of the week, we should be in a better position going forward.”

The company has said that the implementation of load shedding is a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that a reliable supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.
