Local nurses honoured for their service

Roseacres celebrates National Nurses Day.

International Nurses’ Day is celebrated annually on May 12.

The day honours nurses around the world for their selfless dedication to the needs of their patients.

This year, Life Healthcare took the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate over 9 000 nurses employed by the group.

The theme chosen this year by, the group, was “Compassion in Nursing”, which aligns to the company’s core values of performance, pride and passion for people.

The Life Roseacres Clinic, in Primrose, joined in the celebration by hosting a special presentation for its nurses, with messages of encouragement and praise from the management.

“Nurses are the heart of healthcare and the very core of the Life Healthcare Group,” said André Meyer, CEO of Life Healthcare.

“Nursing is a profession of compassion and caring, and is also linked to a scientific background; it is a dedicated service to the sick during their time of need,” said Dr Sharon Vasuthevan, group nursing executive at Life Healthcare.

At the celebration of their nurses, last Tuesday, Mathews Moavodi, the hospital manager of Life Roseacres Clinic, said: “I hope I stand before nurses who became nurses for the passion.”

Sophie Sibisi, the nursing manager of Life Roseacres Clinic, led the attending nurses in retaking their Nurse’s Pledge.

This was followed by a small prize-giving; the clinic had four nominees and one winner in the Great 100 Nurses Awards.

These awards honour 100 of the top nurses, who have made a significant difference to the profession of nursing and in the lives of patients, peers, students and the community at large.

Nominees are judged on professionalism, compassionate care-giving, clinical competence and leadership qualities.

The 100 top great nurses will be nursing ambassadors for Life Healthcare and the nursing profession at large.

Nominees were: Lyneen Botha, Linda Zigode, Phumie Magadulelea and Nosipho Motha, with Cynthia Madondo being named as one of the Great 100 Nurses of 2015.

Odet Tshiunga received the Discovery Quality Award, which is given to the nurse voted as the best by the hospital’s patients.

“On International Nurses’ Day it gives me great pleasure to pay tribute to our top-class nursing team, who strive for excellence,” said Vasuthevan.
