Be alert when entering smash-and- grab hotspots

Help prevent smash-and-grabs.

The Germiston community is again urged to be cautious when travelling, as reports of smash-and-grabs continue to come in.

One such report came from Maggie Maritz.

She explained that she had stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Stanley and Main Reef roads, when suddenly the window of her bakkie was smashed and her handbag taken.

A shaken Maritz reported the incident to the Germiston SAPS.

The police continue to urge drivers, especially women drivers, to help prevent these incidents by not placing any valuable items, such as handbags, laptops or cellphones, on the seats or inside the vehicle, where they are easily seen, as this offers an opportunity to would-be-criminals.

The community is asked to take extra care in the following hot-spots identified by the Germiston police:

  •  corner of Jack and Refinery roads;
  •  corner of Johann Rissik and Junction roads;
  •  corner of Lower Boksburg and Simon Bekker roads;
  •  corner of Knights and Lower Boksburg roads;
  •  the N17 highway’s on and off-ramps;
  •  corner of Power and Refinery roads
  •  corner of Stanley and Main Reef roads.
