DA stage a walk-out

DA opposed to 1049 departmental jobs being created.

The DA in the metro feels that the people have been put first after councillors staged a walked out of council following the discussion around the highly controversial Institutional Review.

Which will see a total of 1049 departmental jobs being created for cadres in the metro’s next financial year.

“While the DA fully agrees there is an urgent need for job creation, these proposed positions are mainly those of managers, many of them in the offices of the politicians, rather than service delivery departments in the municipality.

“This is only the first phase of a longer term plan to add extra employees every year over the following years.

“The estimate of the cost of implementation of the plan is a whopping extra R2.3 billion per year.

“Further shocks can be expected in the future,” said Fortune Mahano, DA Leader in Ekurhuleni.

It’s the unemployed residents that the DA claims to be most concerned about, as these residents continue to suffer through a lack of work opportunities.

“Unfortunately their situation is set to get worse as inflationary increases in municipal charges will depress economic growth and job creation even further,” he said.
