Water gushes for four days before meter is replaced

Metro replaces stolen meter.

The Germiston City News received a report from Fisher’s Hill resident Roy Harris about a stolen water meter.

The water meter was stolen from Neptune Road on Friday, February 27 and, despite being reported, the water was left to gush for four days before the metro reacted.

The GCN approached the metro to find out:

  •  Why they took so long to replace the meter?
  •  To whom can the community report incidents such as these?

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro responded with the following statement: “The EMM’s Water and Sanitation Department would like to apologise for the delayed response, however, our engineers have confirmed that the water meter was installed and the query was closed on Tuesday, March 3.

“Our customers are again reminded to report any water meter-related problems to our service call centre number: 0860 054 3000.

“In addition to the above number, customers can also report any water meter-related complaints to the service delivery department: 011 999 5514/1712/0458/1790.”
