It’s a dog’s life

Local agility club has a barking good time.

It was fun all the way, last Saturday, when members of the Dynamic Agility Academy tested their skills against one another.

The club held its annual function and awards ceremony at Hoërskool Vryburger High, where they train.

Dogs and owners were put through their paces in various activities and a great time was had by all who attended.

After all the taxing field work it was time to have a relaxing lunch, after which awards were presented to members of the club.

The awards were as follows:

  • Charmain Studer and her dog Polly received a certificate for attendance.
  • Obedience Awards:
  • Perseverance: Gold went to Suzanne Stokes and Melanie.
  • Most Improved Handler: Joint first place was awarded to Lundie Askes and Saede and Kayla van der Walt and Parker.
  • Most Improved Dog: Gold went to both Cindy and her owner Joy van Rensburg and Chloe and her owner Margrit Rebak.
  • Most Improved Team: First place went to Joy van Rensburg and Cindy.
  • Agility Awards:
  • Joker Trophy for giving the cub members the most laughs: Blaze and his owner Raynardt Vos.
  • Wooden Spoon Trophy for Perseverance: First went to Ameigh Haasbroek and Hazel; second was Natasha Biccard and Mia and bronze went to Margrit Rebak and Chloe, as well as Caroline Howes and Roxy.
  • Bronwyn Botha Trophy for Most Improved Handler: First place was a tie, with Charmain Studer and Polly and Suzanne Stokes and Rusti winning; second spot was also a tie, with Bernadette Ehlers and Roxy and Melissa Whitecross and Spunki taking the honours; third place went to Samantha Eva and Duke.
  • Rob Henry Tyre Jump Trophy for Most Improved Dog: First place was Polly owned by Charmain Studer; second place went to Xhenia owned by Tania Marshall, as well as Blaze owned by Raynardt Vos; third place went to Roxy owned by Bernadette Ehlers and Spunki owned by Melissa Whitecross.
  • Jayden Botha Trophy for Most Improved Team: Gold went to Charmain Studer and Polly; silver was won by Bernadette Ehlers and Roxy; bronze went to Tania Marshall and Xhenia, as well as Samantha Eva and Duke.
  • DAA Trophy for Outstanding Services to Dynamic: Bert Askes.
  • Meidjie Trophy: Jett and his handler Gift Chirwa.
  • Oscar Trophy: Raynardt Vos and Blaze.
  • Casper Trophy: Joint first to Melissa Whitecross, Caroline Howes and Suzanne Stokes.

During the course of the event an auction was also held, to raise money for Paws R Us, in Midrand.

A wheelbarrow sponsored by Alberton Hardware containing dog food sponsored by Hills, dog treats sponsored by Pro-Pet, wine sponsored by the Mundell family and biltong and dry wors sponsored by Primrose Hill Butchery was auctioned.

A total of R6 400 was raised for the chosen charity.
