Local football club prepares for season

Pre-season training.

The Germiston City Football Club’s senior sides are in full pre-season training mode and ready to take on the upcoming season.

“We are back at training in full force; both the first and second teams gained promotion to ELFA Super League One, and we are proud of them,” said the club’s communication’s officer, Pieter Oliver.

Oliver also said that although the club are happy to have their senior sides promoted, more effort and focus is expected from the boys.

“This season promises to be a great test for the Germiston sides after being absent from the top league for seven years,” he said.

“Under the guidance of coaches Len van Rooyen and Sreten Pavlovich, the boys hope to be a strong force in this very competitive league.”

Oliver added that more players are welcome to join the club.

“Our practises takes place every Tuesday and Thursday, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, and on Sundays, at 10pm.

”More players are welcome, however, we will need to be strict on selection, as funds are limited at the club.”With that said, we are in search of sponsors, because some of the players come from the townships around Germiston and they need to travel to and from practise and games.

“The money used to transport the youngsters comes from funds raised through sponsorship, and the shortfall comes from the coaches’ and club administrator’s own pockets.

“To successfully run a club like the Germiston City Sports Club, which comprises three senior sides and 11 junior sides, we require roughly R300 000, which is raised mainly through sponsors and subscriptions.

“We appeal to all businesses in Germiston to help us to continue to uphold the Germiston name.”
