Local businessman murdered

Three arrests made after the murder of a Germiston South business owner.

A 45-year-old business owner was murdered in Germiston South, on Tuesday.

While out on patrol in the early hours of the morning, Germiston SAPS members saw people running in an open veld and decided to pursue them.

The officers managed to apprehend one of the men and found a firearm in his possession.

It was then that they got a call on the police radio to say that there was a business robbery in progress in Moller Road, Germiston South.

“The officers questioned the suspect about the business robbery and he admitted that he and his friends had robbed the business,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston Police Cluster.

“They then went to the home of one of the suspect’s friends in Germiston Extension Nine, and arrested another two men.”

Upon their arrival at the scene of the crime, the officers discovered that the suspects had shot and killed the 45-year-old business owner.

“It is not known if anything was taken from the scene,” de Jager said.

“The suspects aged 24, 25 and 28, were arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station and the firearm was booked in as evidence by Const Thabo Chiloane and Const Hazlet Ndlovu.”
