Some residents are still not receiving post

Post office battling with a shortage of manpower.

Many Germiston residents are still not receiving their post.

A Primrose resident contacted the GCN regarding the fact that she still had not received any post even though the strike was long over.

The GCN contacted Johan Kruger from the SA Post Office, who said, “Mail delivery in Germiston is currently affected by a shortage of manpower for sorting and street delivery.

“The Post Office is in the process of addressing the problem by redeployment of delivery staff.

“The Germiston sorting depot is working, but in some instances, mail that was delayed in the strike is still received from larger sorting centres.

“As a result, residents will receive mail that is late because it was delayed higher up in the sorting hierarchy.

“Although the backlog on domestic mail has been largely worked off, residents should also be aware that, unfortunately, a large backlog remains at the Johannesburg International Mail Centre.

“This has delayed international air mail.

“International surface mail is not affected and is running normally.”
