Residents in Elsburg and Tedstoneville were left in the dark last Tuesday evening.
The power outage occurred at about 9pm and on Wednesday morning a resident in the area told the GCN it had not as yet been restored.
The GCN asked the metro for comment on the matter and Themba Gadebe, the metro’s spokesman said, “The outage was caused by a 33 kV fault in our main substation where we receive our supply from Eskom.
“Portion of the network was also vandalised during the outage due to attempted theft of cables and 6.6 kV equipment.
“The fault had to be repaired before the substation could be energised and customers given supply, causing an extended outage.
“Supply was restored to most customers at approximately 8am.
“The remaining customers were off as a result of the vandalism and this was realised when electricity was restored.
“Repairs were done and power to all customers was restored.”
