Charity ambassadors of the school

Local school supports organization.

The Community Outreach Programme (COP) team at St Catherine’s School invited Kids Haven from Benoni to their school, in Lambton, on Thursday (June 6).

“COP is about caring and giving back to those who do not have,” said Liezel Champion, the COP coordinator at the school.

Sue Daly, fund-raiser coordinator at Kids Haven, and Connie Biyela, assistant coordinator, were invited to brief the pupils about Kids Haven and its role in society, as well as to collect donations from the pupils.

“The word ‘kids’ in Kids Haven actually stands for: kids in dire stress,” explained Sue.
“We work to change the circumstances of all children.

“Kids Haven is alternative care.

“My job is to get funds to keep the shelter functioning.”

“We work with children across Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg.

“We need bags and bags of second-hand clothing.

“There is nothing that we do not use.”

Sue thanked the pupils for taking on this initiative and partnership with Kids Haven, to donate goods and items to the care centre.

“Thank you for coming and telling us about Kids Haven,” said Liezel.

“I’m sure the team has enough information to go back to the rest of the school and let them know how they can help.”
