Why does the metro take so long to replace water meters?

Metro takes five months to replace water meter.

The Germiston City News recently received a call from a disgruntled Homestead resident who has been having problems with his water meter since May.

“My water metre was stolen in May,” he said.

“I immediately reported it to the metro and was given a reference number.”

Months passed and he continued to call the metro for assistance, but nothing was done.

The GCN approached the metro’s department of communication and brand management and asked:

  •  When would the water meter be replaced?
  •  Are steps being taken to reduce the theft of water meters in the metro?
  •  Was a temporary connection put in place directly after the theft?

Lebogang Ramashala, senior media officer, replied to our inquiry with the following statement: “A temporary connection was made for the consumer when the meter was stolen.

“The complainant’s problem was finalised with the installation of a new meter on October 3.”

Despite the numerous calls, it took approximately five months before the metro replaced the meter.
