Simple altercation leads to assault

Man hit in the face with a beer bottle during altercation.

A 23-year-old has been arrested by the Primrose police and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The accused was arrested in the Makause informal settlement after the victim of an attack open a formal case against him at the Primrose Police Station.

The victim told officers that he had been at a local tavern, enjoying a drink, when the accused trampled over him.

The complainant asked the accused to apologise, but, instead, the man started swearing at him.

“The victim walked away and tried to avoid the accused, but the suspect kept on following him and telling him that he was not scared of him,” explained the communications officer of the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

“The accused then grabbed the victim, strangled him and hit him in the face with a beer bottle.

“He then took out sharp object and stabbed the victim in the upper body.”

Detectives were able to trace the suspect and arrest him.

“We would like to appeal to our community to know the right procedure for solving challenges, rather than taking the law into their own hands,” added Maome.

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the matter was postponed for plea and trial.
