Women’s roadblocks bring order to Katlehong

EMPD women take to the streets of Katlehong.

EMPD women officers recently invaded Katlehong in the form of high visibility patrols, stop-and-searches and both static and roving roadside checks.

These measures impacted positively on the attitudes of most of the motorists in the area.

“During the operation, which took place over two days, eight mini-buses were found to be unroadworthy and were discontinued from using public roads, while five other vehicles were impounded for being in a dismal state, which was deemed to be unsafe for road-users,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

“On both days, from morning to late afternoon, the no-nonsense women officers managed to bring order and good behaviour to Katlehong in terms of both crime and irresponsible conduct on the roads.”

Over 60 citations were issued for various offences, including defects on vehicles, as well as for invalid documentation.

The next round of this special operation will take place soon, in an area already identified.
