Two arrested for murder of an officer in Katlehong

Officer killed in Katlehong.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, were arrested in Katlehong on Saturday, August 16.

They are charged with the murder of a Katlehong SAPS constable and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The constable was shot during a routine patrol in the area.

The officers were patrolling the area when they spotted a white Volkswagen Polo, which appeared suspicious to them.

“They stopped the vehicle along Venus Road, in Katlehong South,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Katlehong SAPS.

“It is alleged that the vehicle was occupied by four passengers.

“As officers stopped the vehicle, all the passengers climbed out and this is when one of the passengers began to shoot at them.”

One of the officers was shot and fatally wounded during the altercation and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second officer was able to arrest two of the suspects involved in the incident, while the other two fled the scene on foot.

After the arrests the vehicle was searched and a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition was found.

“The Katlehong SAPS are still searching for the two suspects who ran away.

“We are appealing to the community to assist in the search for the suspects,” said Ndobe.

The men who were arrested appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court.
