The Germiston Rotary Anns reach out across the provinces

The Germiston Rotary Anns lend a helping hand to those in need.

The Germiston Rotary Anns reached out across the provinces to assist the community of Warden, in the Free State.

Jolanda van Niekerk explained how this came to be.

“It all started last year, when I had a hair appointment in Alberton,”she said.

“The women in the salon were chatting about Christmas time.

“At that time it was my responsibility to go shopping for our organisation’s community Christmas Tree.

“Every year we host a Christmas party for around 2 000 underprivileged children in the Phumelela Region, in the Free State.

“In the salon I met Hester Coward, who is a member of the Germiston Rotary Anns.”

The two women exchanged telephone numbers and Coward invited van Niekerk to call her if the Rotary Anns could assist in any future projects.

“Just before Women’s Day (August 9) I phoned Coward to see if they could assist in any way,” said van Niekerk.

To van Niekerk’s surprise, Coward said that the Rotary Anns had put together a small donation for her.

“She asked if it would be possible for me to come and collect the package,” added van Niekerk

The donation of slippers, towels and clothing allowed the organisation to change the lives of more than 500 people in the Warden area.

“We are still packing goods to be handed out,”she said.

“On Women’s Day we visited our town’s RDP houses and handed out the donated items to the residents who needed them most.

“A huge thank you to all involved, and know that your kindness has gone a very long way.”
