Local athlete calls out

In need of funds.

Jordan Ty Croukamp (12), from Elspark, has been selected to represent South Africa at an athletics meeting in The Netherlands, at the PSV Eindhoven Athletics Stadium.

The events in which Jordan will take part will be held over a 10-day period.

“This is a very big event, with only a few South African athletes from various clubs selected to participate,” said Jordan’s father, Keith Croukamp.

Jordan and his father are calling out to the community, because they don’t have enough funds for the trip to the Netherlands.

“Like I said, this is an experience of a lifetime for him to be able to compete against children from around the world in his specialised discipline, however, we are in need of sponsorship as I can’t afford the costs,” explained Keith.

Jordan started hurdles at school, at the beginning of the year, and excelled quite naturally at it; he was placed third at the Boksburg championships, with no professional training.

He is to depart for the trip on June 26, and to return on July 7.

  • June 27: Eindhoven athletics meeting.
  • July 4: Roermond athletics meeting.
  • July 5 and 6: Best athletics meeting.

The youngster trains with the Boksburg Athletics Club three times a week and enjoys every minute of it.

“I am going to be a hurdles champion and nothing is going to stop me; I enjoy hurdles and want to be the best I can be,” said Jordan.

“We really need sponsorship for both of us, as I am expected to pay the same amount for myself, as well, but I have not even bothered about myself yet, as I need to ensure that I can safely say Jordan is going, before I can worry about being there to support him,” said Keith.

“Any form of donation or sponsorship, great or small, will be greatly appreciated; I have the sponsorship letter that I can forward to anybody who would like one.”

The total amount for the 10-day trip, which includes a return flight ticket and accommodation for the entire period, is R16 788 per person.
