Community shocked about attack

Community comes out in support of attacked couple.

The community has come out in support of the elderly Primrose couple, Heini (78) and Kitta (73) Witthoft, who were recently attacked in their home (GCN, April 25).

The GCN received a number of calls from people offering assistance to the couple.

One pensioner, who lives in Wychwood, has said that he will offer R1 000 to the policeman who arrests and aids in getting the perpetrators convicted, as well as donating R1 000 to the SAPS Widows and Orphans Fund.

“This is a shocking thing to have happened,” he said.

“I have also had thugs in my home but luckily I managed to fight back.”

On our title site, www.germistoncitynews.co.za, one resident said, “I just moved to Germiston.

“I was told it is a safe environment – this hurts me as these are our elders.

“I am disgusted at this and it is happening nationwide.

“Our elders are vulnerable and I think ‘animals’ like this deserve the death penalty.”

Another resident asked: “Why is there no one to protect us?”

She said, “Why are people being killed and terrorised every day and the government acts oblivious to these crimes?”

Another resident said: “God help us in the years ahead if this is a taste of what is to come.”
