Luso hammers Union

Winning streak for Luso.

Luso Africa FC’s reserve side, together with their seniors’ first division, delivered first class football to spectators when they played against Union FC’s teams, on April 12, at Luso Africa Sports Club, in Hattingh Park.

The reserves opened the day with an interesting first half that saw Luso rattle and shake up Union with a welcome goal, minutes into the half.

Union looked well-trained, but Luso proved to be stronger and displayed more more tactics as they dominated the entire game, from the referee’s starting whistle to the end.

Luso seemed to know Union’s style of play from the on-set; they left no room for observation or analysis, they knew their formation and launched onto the field.

As the spectators were commending Luso on their excellent level of play, they served Union with another goal, soon after the visitors had a close attempt at scoring.

Luso extended their lead.

During the reserves’ half-time, the seniors were already warming up for their turn on the field.

Union’s reserves seemed more confident and in control when they launched into the second half.

Luso had to deal with a much stronger defence from Union, which means they really had to work hard and earn their third goal.

The coaches, officials and spectators were so caught up in the level of play that the second half seemed to go by quickly.

The last goal of the match also brought it to an end with a score of 4-0.

Both senior sides were obviously more than ready to get onto the field, because this time the players were eagerly waiting for the officials, and not the other way around.

One thing that stood out throughout this match was that both teams know how to play good quality football.

There were fewer fouls, injuries and complains — these teams truly were good sportsmen.

Ball possession was fair, and not a case of one side dominating.

Shots on target and at goal were owned by Luso, which is why it came as no surprise when they won the game 6-0.

It was a big loss for Union, but the local team knows they had to fight for every one of those goals, each coming after hard tackling, dribbling and sweating.

Luso Africa also played some away games.

Among others, Luso’s veterans’ side (second team) played in the finals of the Veterans Cup, against Balfour Park, and won by 3-2.

The veterans’ A team also won the cup in a final against Kempton Park, with a score of 5-2.

When Luso took on the Lions, the reserve sides drew 2-2, while the first teams drew 1-1.
