Athletes run for victory

Callies on the rise.

Germiston Callies athletes started the year in the right way, and they continue to scoop more and more first places.

The Germiston Stadium hosted yet another Central Gauteng Athletics League meeting, on Saturday, and Callies athletes produced great results.

  • Kayla Gilbert won the 100m hurdles in 13.7 seconds.
  • Jade Thiele won the 100m sprint race in 12 seconds.
  • Danie van Blerk won the men’s 100m sprint race in 10.5 seconds.

All these athletes were able to make the podium easily, through the rain.

“I am very proud of the athletes; they train hard and prepare well for the races; we started the season well and it seems as though we are going to have a great season again,” said Germiston Callies coach Stephané Kotzé.

In other news, Kayla Gilbert and Danie van Blerk competed in Pretoria on February 22 and also managed to make the podium.

Gilbert won the 100m hurdles and van Blerck was third in the men’s 200m sprint race.

Shani Lottering, from Laërskool Delville, performed well at the Gauteng School Championships, in Pretoria, on Sunday.

Lottering won the 80m hurdles, 200m hurdles and the u-13 100m sprint race.

“Hard work pays; we are still training hard, as we want to continue producing such impressive results and we are looking forward to the competitions we have lined up for the season, we hope to do well,” added Kotzé.
