Fightstar 6 in Primrose

MMA tournament comes to Primrose.

On March 8, Africa’s most exciting Amateur MMA tournament, Fightstar 6, comes to the St John’s Hellenic Hall, in Primrose.

MMA fighters from all over South Africa, as well as from other parts of Africa, will converge on this awesome venue to battle against each other.

All fights are sanctioned by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), and Martial Arts South Africa.

“Fightstar 6 is going to be another epic event, promising an action-packed night of top entertainment,” said Fightstar matchmaker Grant Oliff.

Fightstar is the Amateur MMA development partner to EFC Africa, the biggest MMA promotion on the African continent.

Fightstar, together with EFC Africa, use this event to raise awareness and funds for the Fighting Fit Africa (FFA) community, a youth upliftment project.

FFA promotes a healthier lifestyle, through encouraging participation in sports and fitness activities, as well as MMA athlete development.

The Fighting Fit-EFC Africa Development project is based in Kensington and has the support of the chief of the SANDF, Gen Solly Shoke.

“It’s all about developing our youth” said Fightstar and FFA president Pietro Cignoli.

“MMA training has a huge impact on young lives.

“These youngsters, wherever they’re from, get to interact with their heroes and, when they go back home and train with their friends and communities, they become heroes in their own right.

“We are literally providing an alternative to the streets, and our guys are working towards achieving their best.”

Fighting Fit-EFC Africa development athlete, Cassim “The Phantom” Khusu, from Kensington, will also be competing at Fightstar 6.

He has a record of four wins and no losses.

FightStar events are designed to allow athletes the chance to develop their skills in a quality amateur competition environment.

“We want to provide a platform to which our development youngsters can aspire,” said Cignoli.

“They know that if they work hard they can one day compete at FightStar and, hopefully, at EFC Africa.”

Fightstar offers amateur MMA fighters the perfect platform to show off their skills in front of EFC president Cairo Howarth and EFC Africa matchmaker Graeme Cartmell.

“We are very proud to be associated with FightStar and the Fighting Fit Africa Youth Development Project,” said Howarth.

“It is amazing to see the sport of MMA making such positive changes in the lives of young people, and the ability to discover talent that may otherwise not have been seen is incredibly exciting.”
