Alleged rapist caught

Man arrested for allegedly raping a suspected "lady of the night".

The Primrose police arrested a man in Wolf Street, on a charge of rape, on Valentine’s Day.

It is alleged that the victim and her friend were walking home along a street in Primrose when the 31-year-old man, who was driving a bakkie, stopped.

The victim’s friend approached the man, who said he wasn’t interested in her and called the victim.

“When the victim approached his vehicle, he allegedly asked her to have sex with him in exchange for money,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“They agreed to this and the victim suggested they go to her room, but the suspect refused.

“He allegedly drove her to Walkers Street, parked on the pavement and forcefully had sex with her.

“As the police we condemn the behaviour of both the suspect and the victim.”

Maome added that the man should not have forced the woman to have sex with him, while the victim should not have got into a stranger’s vehicle.

“We suspect that the woman is/was one of the ‘ladies of the night’ in Primrose,” said Maome.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
