VLC pair complete the Dusi

First Dusi for VLC lads.

Colin Ledwaba, a junior member of the Germiston-based Victoria Lake Canoe Club, finished his first Dusi with club mate Brandon Little.

The 2014 Dusi, the world’s toughest canoe endurance race, 120km of gruelling cross-country and wild white water rapids over the three days, February 13 to 15, finished at the Blue Lagoon on the beachfront of Durban.

The pair finished in 503rd position of 775 boats, in a K2 year, where the majority of boats were doubles.

They finished in an overall time of 13 hours and 36 minutes, a long, tough and exhausting challenge for the young lads.

While it was their first Dusi race, the club has a very proactive development programme, supported by clubs and the local Department of Sport, at Germiston Lake.

The youngsters also enjoyed the opportunity to famliarise themselves with the Dusi river during the December holidays, resulting in a highly successful race, without sustaining boat damage or disastrous mistakes that could have ended their race prematurely.
