Makause man arrested for theft

Man arrested for theft.

A 31-year-old man was recently arrested in the Makause informal settlement, on charges of theft.

The arrest was made after a man came to the Primrose Police Station to report the theft.

The man told officers that he was on his way to work when his landlord called him and reminded him that he had not paid his rent.

He ignored the call and, when he returned home, he found that all his belongings had been thrown out of the shack he had been renting.

Upon further inspection he found that the locks on the shack had been changed.

He began to collect his belongings and then realised that his brown leather jacket and two pairs of sports shoes, to the value of R1 350, were missing.

The man was sure that his landlord had taken them and decided to open a case against him.

Officers were able to trace the landlord and he was arrested.

“We are appealing to the community not to take the law into their own hands; they must follow the right procedure when things happen,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The accused appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for trial.
