Race to create HIV/Aids awareness

Run for a cause on World Aids Day.

The metro, in association with the Soul City Sports Club, will host a World Aids Day half-marathon, as well as 10km and 5km road races, at the Katlehong Sports Complex, on December 1.

The race is aimed at encouraging participants and communities at large to unite in the fight against HIV and Aids, to show support for people living with the virus and also to commemorate the lives lost due to HIV-related sicknesses.

South Africa is one of the countries that have the highest rates of HIV infection in the world.

Another objective is to create awareness about the dangers of unprotected sex and having multiple partners.

Various NGOs in the field of HIV and Aids have confirmed their participation and they will distribute educational information and provide counselling services at the race venue.

Entry forms are available at all Central Gauteng races and at the metro’s sport and recreation office, at the Germiston Stadium.

Online entries can also be obtained at www.entrytime.com or www.sa-active.co.za.

For more information contact Mathapelo Morema on 083 986 6376, or Arnold Ravhutulu on 079 135 4566.

The Katlehong Sports Complex is located in Masakhane Road, Katlehong.

Registration will open at 5.30am and people can enter on the day.

The race starts at 7am.
