Criminals target Victoria Lake Club House

"The presence of oil in our lake's water, which is meant to be removed at the filtration plant, is another major problem.”

Germiston is facing growing concerns over metal theft and public infrastructure vandalism, with the Victoria Lake club house being among the hardest hit.

The club recently demanded that the City of Ekurhuleni take action and prosecute those responsible for repeatedly stealing their fence.

According to the club, the theft has become increasingly frequent.

“We replaced our fence after it was stolen, but they returned to take what we replaced,” said a representative of the club.

“Vagrants have also breached the fence to sleep inside, lighting fires that have damaged our trees.

“The trunks are charred, and the trees are at risk of collapsing. Additionally, there has been damage to our electrical cables.”

The club also highlighted environmental concerns regarding oil pollution in the lake’s water, which they claim is exacerbated by the city’s failure to maintain the filtration plant.

Concerns over stealing of Victoria Lake Club House fence grow higher.

“We have taken responsibility for the plant, but we need the city’s approval and support to fully secure it with a proper fence and the necessary services,” the representative added.

The Victoria Lake Club House expressed frustration at the city’s inaction.

“I’ve been a member for a long time, and it’s disheartening to see the city’s decline. They are neglecting these serious issues.”

The Germiston City News requested a comment from the City of Ekurhuleni by October 4, but no response was received by the time of publication.
