Athletes of Elspark High make Gauteng team

The event held at Hoërskool Goudrif on September 18, was attended by athletes from across the province.

Elspark High School athletes have been announced to be part of Gauteng team at the Gauteng Cross-Country honours function for Lsen and mainstream schools.

The event held at Hoërskool Goudrif on September 18, was attended by athletes from across the province.

General manager Esmerelda Lingenfelde said the honours function is where all celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes and recognise the remarkable talent within the cross-country community.

“This is a momentous occasion as we gather to announce the Gauteng Cross-Country team that will represent our province at the national champioships.

“This event marks the culmination of a season filled with dedication, hard work, and perseverance, and we are thrilled to honour the athletes who have distinguished themselves through their exceptional performance and unwavering commitment.

“Our cross-country runners have shown remarkable determination and skill, and it is their passion for the sport and their drive to excel that brings us here today.

“We also extend our deepest gratitude to the coaches, families, and supporters whose encouragement and support have played a crucial role in their success.

“As we celebrate our athletes’ accomplishments, let us also take this opportunity to acknowledge the spirit of excellence and camaraderie that defines our community.

“May the Gauteng team’s journey to the national championships be a source of pride and inspiration for us all,” said Lingenfelde.

Elsburg athletics coach Antonie du Toit said the commitment and guidance of dedicated coaches and trainers helped the athletes reach their goals.

“Sphiwe Makhoba will compete in u19 boys, Lerato Moromodi in u19 boys, and Nolia Moruta in u16 girls,“ said Du Toit.

“Our six-day training programme has been the secret behind our success this year,” said Du Toit.

“We started cross-country three years ago and in the first year I had one athlete reaching the provincials and we started building from there,” said Du Toit.
