Mayor commits to tackle issues plaguing Germiston despite missing meeting

The Germiston City News inquired about the mayor’s absence from a crucial community meeting, which he himself had called.

The Germiston City News inquired about the mayor’s absence from a crucial community meeting, which he himself had called.

Acting mayoral spokesperson Ramatolo Tlotleng explained that the mayor was forced to address an urgent matter beyond his control, preventing him from attending.

Tlotleng acknowledged the communication gap, stating, “While it would have been ideal to inform the community of the mayor’s absence in advance, the last-minute nature of the situation made it impossible.

“Going forward, the mayor’s office will strive to improve communication, particularly when unforeseen changes occur.”

Despite the mayor’s absence, Tlotleng noted that key members of the Mayoral Committee were present at the energy and service delivery meeting to address community concerns.

“The MMCs actively engaged with attendees, took note of key issues and provided feedback.

“The mayor has been fully briefed and will personally follow up to ensure concerns are addressed efficiently,” he said.

Tlotleng emphasised the mayor’s commitment to service delivery, citing the mayor’s State of the City Address, which outlined plans for mayoral imbizo platforms for direct engagement with residents.

An imbizo for the Germiston area is already in the planning stages, allowing the mayor to address service delivery concerns directly.

In response to perceptions that his absence signalled a disconnection from the community, Tlotleng reassured residents that the mayor remains committed to restoring trust.

“Initiatives like the Mayoral Service Delivery War Room, chaired by the mayor, are aimed at fast-tracking solutions to service delivery challenges.

“These efforts, along with increased community engagement, will ensure leadership is accountable and responsive,” he said.
